Meet Ernest, the American Empire Secretary

Searching craigslist for months proved to be a bit exhausting but eventually paid off.
One day, I came across a listing for an American Empire Secretary priced at $100.
Definitely a fixer-upper, still.. Good bones, clean lines, simple & elegant form...
Just my style.

Pics below.

The inside of the desk shows slots and drawers in good enough condition.

Note the marks on the desk surface and the mold and warping on the veneer in the inside of the slant lid.

The white marks are decades of wax and dirt built up on the surface; like a crud or a "cancer" of sorts.

Note the bottom left hand corner of the slant lid. There is a lot of build up on top of the wood here.

Also, note the missing piece on the bottom left shelf, looks as if it were broken off. :-(

I'm afraid as to what might be underneath all the grime.

Still its simple elegance is completely understated.

I couldn't resist the urge to bring it out and make it shine.

After contacting the the previous owner, Leslie, to let her know of my intent to purchase, a Saturday delivery, and then a few drinks at Dirty Franks as a thank you, I became the new owner.

New Project!
